U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. The U3A approach to learning is – learning for pleasure. There is no accreditation or validation and there are no assessments or qualifications to be gained.

Church Stretton U3A was started in May 2010 on the initiative of Barbara Thurston. We now have 236 paid up members and 20 interest groups (end December 2015).

We are affiliated to the national organisation the Third Age Trust.

Like all local U3As we are a learning cooperative drawing upon the knowledge, experience and skills of our own members to organise and provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership. The teachers learn and the learners teach. Why not look through the list of interest groups and see if there is anything there for you. If not, why not start a group that does interest you and get together with others who would enjoy sharing and learning more about your interest.
